It's alive! About 30 hours in water, the leaves are opening up to a new world - a world that I imagine, is very different from the one she fell asleep in. These plants are part of a category of drought resistant plants, quite appropriately named, resurrection plants. There are 135 species of resurrection plants around the world. Street vendor selling dried plants, that magically come to life once kept in water. The plants in picture, he claims, are two years old. "Change the water every 15 days and keep them indoors," he advises. Almost every plant seller says that their plants need to see the sun once in a while, so I wasn't entirely convinced with this man's claims. Besides, he wasn't forthcoming about the name of the plant or its origins. But I bought it anyway - he was selling it at a ridiculous price! If it didn't work its alleged magic, I could live with myself. As we walked away after our purchase I asked him once more, "What's the name of this plant?" He paused for a fraction of a second. I can't tell if he felt irritated, or if he just felt like pulling my leg. "Sanjeevani", he finally said, without looking at me, trying to act busy.
